Gig reviews

Noon concerts begin at USU
By David Felton, On-Line Forty-Niner
University Student Union presented its first noontime concert in the USU South Plaza Tuesday, with Dave Widow and the Line Up playing some smooth rhythm and blues. The group rocked through 10 songs and the members looked like they were having a great time. The sun was bright and the day was warm - a perfect time of the year for an outside concert. The four band members jammed through some soulful tunes. Halfway through the set, keyboardist Marty Grebb sang a spirited tune which was accompanied by an impassioned guitar solo by Dave Widow. The rhythm section, which contained Reggie McBride on 5-string bass and Gary Mallaber on drums, did an excellent job holding down the backbeat. With such a tight rhythm section, it was unfortunate that they did not do a drum or bass solo. The band members have an impressive musical history. Grebb was a long-time Bonnie Raitt band member. McBride played with such notable musicians as Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson. Mallaber's credits include Van Morrison, Steve Miller and Bruce Springsteen. The band was assembled by guitarist and singer-songwriter, Dave Widow.
